we moving to aussie!!!!

Friends, fans and family. We’re doing our second Australian tour in June as heaps of you know and last time we played it we started talking about our options and our future. Recently we’ve again been talking about what we want from this band and where we want to go and we have decided that after our June Australian tour we’ll be staying in Melbourne permanently. We are doing this because its where music is taking us and its what feels right. So guys, we’re moving but we’re not leaving. Our home is always New Zealand and we have a few more shows to play before we leave but we will be back sometime soon to play some shows and record a new album at home. Heaps of Love, Jurassic Penguin boys.

taken by sammy at our on the shore this weekend, thanks to everyone that came, stage dived, sang along or added some sweet vibes our way. it fucking ruled!!!!

Tonight, I saw some things. I witnessed friendship, compassion, brotherhood…

After 3 years of photographing live music, what I saw was most probably the most RAW and POSITIVE experience of my life.

Say what you will about hardcore/heavy music in general. But I challenge anyone out there to experience the passion a soul of the show I just witnessed and still say this music is negative in any way whatsoever.

I saw a room of people come together as a community and offer an outlet and open arms to strangers with no prejudice, agenda or judgment. You may listen to the music and say its simply noise or say the shows are violent or the lyrics negative or whatever. But how can you come to these conclusions?

First, the people I saw playing tonight showed more musical talent and promise then 99.9% of the shit that’s on our tv’s and radios at this very second.

Secondly there were 80-100 people in that room, none of which was injured and every time someone fell, there was a total stranger with a helping hand there that instant.

And negative lyrics? Every musician on that stage talked REAL truths and REAL issues about REAL world problems they’ve faced, gone through and come out the other side with a comprehensive and positive outlook. As well as telling people about the positive things in life, that no one is ever alone, and no one should ever be judged. If only society had an inch of the positivity I witnessed this evening, we would all be in a better place.

To be honest, I don’t know a specific reason I wrote this. I didn’t write it because I wanted to, but because I felt compelled to.  I’m not trying to be some sort of writer (probably why this isn’t very well written), I find it easier to speak in imagery rather than words, but simply put, I doubt I will ever be able to capture what I mean in a frame, because it’s just to profound and meaningful. Its nights like tonight that make me do what I do. Because over the course of the shows I shoot, if I can capture a collection of imagery that even starts to live to its subjects I will be happy in knowing I’ve captured something truly unique. This is what pushes me. With every show I shoot I promise to put in the same amount of effort with my work as the bands does with their performance.

I think I could go on like this forever and still not get my point across. Simply because I don’t have the vocabulary or writing skill involved to convey my point completely. And again, I’m not sure why I wrote this. I think I just may of needed to get it out of my system in a way. And most probably I will delete it come morning time because by then, it would have most definitely served that purpose.

With saying that, if someone out there does read this and wants to tell a story or share a similar opinion, I openly welcome it. But please, get in quick, or the chance may well be gone and this note forgotten and deleted in the world wide web.

Thanks world.
